Mommy Makeover Plastic Surgery
Becoming a mother is a beautiful experience and one that most women would not trade for anything. However, pregnancy can take its toll on the body, changing the breasts, abdomen, vaginal area and other areas. The “Mommy Makeover” is not one procedure, but a combination of different surgeries that can be used to transform the post-pregnancy body to erase some of the changes caused by pregnancy. Dr. John Anastasatos at Los Angeles Plastic Surgery offers customized “Mommy Makeovers” at our clinic in Beverly Hills.
Every woman’s body responds differently to pregnancy. It depends on how much weight is gained during pregnancy, how many children she’s had, genetics, breast feeding and many other factors. Some women have two or more children and bounce back quickly in their body shape. Other women may only have one child yet have noticeable droopiness in the breast or a flabby abdomen that refuses to flatten to pre-pregnancy form. The “Mommy Makeover” is designed to be customized to the woman and the areas she wants to transform, which may include:
- Breast lift
- Breast augmentation and implants
- Tummy tuck
- Vaginal rejuvenation
The main areas affected by pregnancy are the abdomen, breasts and vaginal areas. However, some woman may find they have excess fat on the thighs, hips or buttocks that do not respond to diet and exercise. Liposuction and body lifts in the buttocks, thighs or arms could also be part of a “Mommy Makeover,” if they are needed.
- Post-Pregnancy Breast Lift or Augmentation
One of the areas that are the biggest concern for women after pregnancy are the breasts. The enlargement during pregnancy, breastfeeding and other factors can change the firmness and shape of the breast, especially after multiple pregnancies. For some women, a mastopexy, or breast lift, is all that is needed to return the breasts to their more youthful position and shape. For other women, a breast lift with implants is necessary to give the breast the volume and firmness they desire.
- Tummy Tuck
The abdomen is another area that is greatly impacted during pregnancy. Not only is the skin stretched, but the abdomen muscles may be stretched and looser. A tummy tuck includes liposuction, muscle tightening and removal of excess skin to restore a flat, firm stomach after pregnancy.
- Body Sculpting and Liposuction
It is normal to gain weight during pregnancy, and not all of it may be on the breasts and stomach. Some women have residual fat deposits on their thighs, buttocks, arms or other areas. Body sculpting with liposuction can remove targeted fat and reshape the body to resemble the pre-pregnancy form.
- Vaginal Rejuvenation
The vagina does rebound back remarkedly after childbirth, but some women notice some changes that may make them feel self-conscious. There are several different vaginal rejuvenation procedures that can be performed as part of a “Mommy Makeover”, including vaginoplasty, vaginal canal tightening and laser vaginal rejuvenation.
- When Can I Have a Mommy Makeover?
Depending on the procedures, most “Mommy Makeovers” should not be performed until at least six months after giving birth. This is needed to allow the abdomen muscles and other areas of the body to recover naturally. The best candidates are those who are healthy, are height-weight proportionate and are not planning to have more children. If a woman becomes pregnant after a tummy tuck, breast lift or other “Mommy Makeover” procedure, she may lose the results.
