There are areas on the body that can accumulate fat deposits that are difficult to burn away through diet and exercise alone. Genetics and other factors create these stubborn fat areas that resist shrinking through metabolism. Tumescent liposuction offers a solution to remove larger fat deposits safely and with quicker recovery. Dr. John Anastasatos offers tumescent liposuction for his patients at Los Angeles Plastic Surgery in Beverly Hills.
What Is Tumescent Liposuction?
All liposuction techniques remove fatty deposits from a targeted area through surgery. With tumescent liposuction, a blend of diluted lidocaine and epinephrine are first injected into the fatty area. The lidocaine acts as local anesthetic, and the epinephrine shrinks the capillaries. A small incision is made to access the fat with a medical vacuum tube that is moved back and forth through the area, removing fatty tissue.
The benefit of tumescent liposuction is that more fat can be removed at one time with less bleeding or risk. The procedure can be performed under local anesthesia, and fat removal is more uniform with less skin irregularities. There is little discomfort for the patient, and deeper fat pockets can be removed with this method. In most cases, patients return to normal activities within a day or two, with little recovery time needed. The area heals quickly, with minimal bruising and swelling compared to older methods of liposuction.
Tumescent liposuction may be performed on many different areas of the body. Some of the most common are the abdomen, back, thighs, chin/neck, breast, hips or buttocks.
